State School of Drama to be set up in Assam

 Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal handed out a cheque of Rs. 3 lakhs to Assam Natya Sanmilan at a function held at Tinsukia on Tuesday. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that a plot of land would be allotted to Sanmilan for setting their permanent office at Guwahati which would augment the promotion of drama in the state.

Sonowal informed that a State School of Drama in the lines of National School of Drama would be set up in the state so that a proper training to the young artists can be provided where they would be enabled to hone their dramatic skills.

The government is also going to constitute an award in the name of doyen of Assamese drama Brajanath Sarma from next year to honour a personality who has contributed immensely to the field of Assamese drama.
